Melky Cabrera Rumors: Cleveland Indians Interested in Giving Outfielder a Shot?

The Cleveland Indians may be the most forgiving ball club in baseball as they have been rumored to having interests in acquiring the 2012 doper of the year, Melky Cabrera as they are in search for outfielders.

According to Paul Hoynes of They Plain Dealer, he can envision Cabrera getting a year of baseball in Cleveland as he will look to change his image and get back into baseball shape.

What does Cleveland provide for Melky?

A relaxed environment.

He had great numbers while with the Kansas City Royals even though many will probably assume his numbers were that good because he was probably on some form of drug.

While in Kansas City, Melky hit 18 homers drove in 85 runs with a .305 batting average in 2011.

He was having a hell of a season with the San Francisco Giants until his test results showed he was using PEDs. The Giants were so disappointed with Melky that they didn't even include him in their playoff tees. Cabrera was a blessing in disguise as his spot in the roster opened up allowing the Giants to pickup Hunter Pence who became the team's cheerleader in the playoffs.

Cleveland has interests in filling out spots in their outfield and Melky could be a candidate. Jason Bay has also been rumored to have drawn interest from the Indians.

If both players are signed you better believe they will not be seeing fat checks. A contract filled with incentives would likely be the right and safest thing to do with them.
