NHL Injury News: Derek Stepan Suffers Multiple Broken Ribs For Rangers, Out Indefinitely After Hit Against Boston Bruins

The New York Rangers have suffered a brutal loss as Derek Stepan suffered multiple broken ribs. The injury came on a late hit by Bruins defender Matt Beleskey which sent Stepan crashing into the boards. Stepan remained on the ice for several minutes as he struggled to get to his feet.

This hit prompted Rangers defenseman Dylan Mcllrath to get some justice for his fallen teammate by fighting Matt Beleskey.

Mcllrath was given a five minute major for fighting and a two minute instigator penalty for throwing the first few punches. This however led to a game tying goal on the Bruins ensuing power play which led to the Rangers loss in Boston. The Rangers seemed to expect some type of punishment sent down by league offices for what could be argued as an egregious hit to a player who didn't even have the puck which should have been called as interference.

This is also the most dangerous kind of hit as Stepan after completing a pass did not expect to be hit because he knew the rules. Of course these hits a constantly happening and it only takes a couple of extra seconds for a call to go one way or another but when a bad hit, a penalty, results in player getting injured; something should be done about it.
