Dallas Cowboys News: Should Team Tank For High Draft Pick? Jerry Jones Could Target Joey Bosa, Paxton Lynch, Ezekiel Elliott After Tony Romo Injury?

The whole thought process behind a team tanking their season goes against everything a competitive professional athlete holds sacred except one thing, winning.

Sure the Cowboys could win a couple of games but unless they run the table and get some help from the NFC East counterparts it's pretty much game over in Dallas. The Cowboys have shown an inability to win without Tony Romo which is a scary thought considering there are currently no backups capable enough to lead this team anywhere.

Cowboys players and fans alike would love to be in a better position heading down the road, and no that doesn't mean depend on Matt Cassel as the primary backup for the next 4 years.

This would be the perfect time to draft Tony Romo's heir. Romo will likely get this hurt again and maybe the Cowboys see this as a sign to draft another offensive lineman but one thing cannot be denied, Romo is getting older and this lost season only hinders his chances of winning a Super Bowl. The Cowboys have an escape plan built into Romo's contract when 2017 arrives however until then it is smart to have a quality quarterback behind him.

With big name quarterbacks such as Johnny Manziel and Robert Griffin III wearing out their welcome in their perspective NFL homes could they be the answer? Not likely, it is too early in Manziel's career to rule out some greatness however RGIII is a shell of his former self and his body may not be able to take a ton of punishment.

So realistically the Cowboys have one option and that is to go through the draft to replace Romo. With quarterbacks like Paxton Lynch and Jared Goff expected to go early in the 2016, do the Cowboys look to pursue them or wait and see.

With only a handful of games left the Cowboys should end up with a top ten pick and whether or not their target is a defensive end like Joey Bosa, a running back like Ezekiel Elliot, or a cornerback like Jalen Ramsey, one thing is certain the Cowboys would be smart to plan for the future today.
