Last night's Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets game featured the Lakers closing out the game with a 95-90 victory, but towards the end there was a bunch of talking going on in the closing minutes on the court.
Most of the chatter was coming from the Lakers' Kobe Bryant and the Nets' Gerald Wallace. With the game on the line and Bryant at the free throw line, Wallace began talking smack to the Lakers All-Star.
According to the New York Daily News, Wallace was trying to get Bryant's attention on an important issue.
"I was trying to get him to close his eyes to shoot." Wallace said.
That's an interesting wager, especially with Wallace going at Bryant's ego. Michael Jordan is famous for many on court displays, one that so happens to be hitting a free throw with his eyes close. Though he may never fully admit it but Bryant wants to be like Mike, so when you factor that into things you'd expect it to be a sure bet.
Well to Bryant a bet is no good unless there's something to gain involved, and Wallace found this out last night.
"I had to make a big bet," Wallace said. "So I told him just shoot the free throws."
There's no telling what this "big bet" involved, whether it was thousands of dollars, millions, maybe even a car. But Wallace was obviously willing to pay up if it scared him off.
Instead the bet was never made and Bryant went on to shoot his free throws the old fashion way to ensure that the Lakers would close out the game.
