The NFL draft order for 2016 has started to take shape, as the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, San Diego Chargers, Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars have the top five picks in the draft. The rest of the draft order past the top 20 will get filled in as the playoffs progress, but for now the majority of teams in the league know where they will be drafting.
The Tennessee Titans clinched the first overall pick in the draft with a loss to the Colts in Week 17, while the Cleveland Browns will be in the number two spot after their loss to the Steelers. The Browns and the Titans both went 3-13 this season, but the Titans clinched the top spot with the strength of schedule tiebreaker. The San Diego Chargers are third in the draft order with a 4-12 record, clinching ahead of the Dallas Cowboys, who went 4-12 and will pick fourth overall.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have a top five pick after going 5-11 and they finished ahead of the tiebreaker in strength of schedule over the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers. The Ravens will pick sixth ahead of the 49ers, while the Miami Dolphins are eighth, the Buccaneers are ninth and the New York Giants will pick 10th after going 6-10 this season.
The Chicago Bears went 6-10 and will pick at number 11, while the New Orleans Saints are 12th and the Philadelphia Eagles will pick at 13. The Oakland Raiders are next at number 14, while the St. Louis Rams, Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons follow in the draft order. The Indianapolis Colts and Buffalo Bills pick at 18 and 19, while the New York Jets have the 20th overall pick after missing the playoffs.
The draft order will get filled out as each round of the playoffs ends and after the wild card weekend finishes up, picks 21 through 24 will get filled. The playoffs will determine where those teams draft instead of the team record from the regular season, with the Super Bowl champs picking at number 32.
