Arsenal Transfer News: Klaas-Jan Huntelaar on His Way to the Emirates? But Schalke Deny Arsenal Bid

While Olivier Giroud might be firing on all cylinders after finally finding his feet at Arsenal, there is no doubt Arsene Wenger could use another top-class striker in his ranks, given the amount of games that will be played in 2013. One of those forwards who has been constantly linked is Schalke's Klaas Jan Huntelaar.

Huntelaar, like Theo Walcott, is yet to agree on a new deal with the German club, with talks, again like the Arsenal forward, ongoing over the possibility of a new deal.

The Netherlands international proved his worth by scoring one goal each against the Gunners in their two Champions League games.

Huntelaar, if he is unable to agree to a new contract by January, will be free to discuss terms with a club outside Germany and come to a pre-contract agreement, meaning he can walk away for free at the end of the season.

The striker could also go for a bargain in January if Arsenal or any other club chooses to put in a bid, forcing Schalke's hand - Liverpool have also been linked with a move for the prolific Dutchman.

The Dutch international is someone who can guarantee you 20 goals a season, and a strikeforce of Huntelaar and the ever-improving Giroud can only make Arsenal better.

However, while Arsenal continue to be linked with the striker in the media, Schalke general manager Horst Heldt insisted there has been no contact made from the Gunners as yet. "It's pure speculation," he told Sky Germany after Schalke's 1-0 win over Olympiakos. "Either Arsenal make us an offer, otherwise it's a load of nonsense."

Huntelaar, himself, added he was not aware of any interest from the Gunners. "I know nothing," he said.

While Arsenal need to sort out the contract situation of Walcott, the Gunners keep getting linked with a quality forward, with Adrian Lopez, Fernando Llorente and Stevan Jovetic all on the manager's radar.

Wenger is a huge admirer of Huntelaar, and with the Netherlands forward available for a nominal fee owing to his contract ending in the summer, a move for the Schalke man would be a typical Wenger signing.
