Washington Redskins Rumors: Will DeSean Jackson Get Released By the Team This Offseason?

DeSean Jackson has been quite the controversial figure throughout his career. He was cut from Philadelphia by Chip Kelly because of rumored gang ties, now it looks like his time in Washington might be coming to a close.

Jackson originally signed with the Redskins to exact revenge on Kelly and the Eagles to some extent he did. The Eagles are now a shell of their former selves and do not even have a head coach while Jackson and the Redskins are coming off of a playoff berth.

Cutting Jackson would save the Redskins $8 million in cap space but if they kept him they would have to pay 9.25 million in 2016. This could be the beginning of the Redskins rebuilding their wide receiving corps even though this would be an odd time to do it and their secondary needs much more work.

The Redskins might even cut Pierre Garcon as he has a cap number of $10.2 million in the 2016 season. Saving around $16 million in cap space would do wonders for the Redskins who could potentially try to land Alshon Jeffery or draft a top receiving threat. The Redskins could also draft a few receivers and focus most of their finances on their secondary.
