The Pittsburgh Steelers will have an uphill battle to climb this offseason as they deal with one of their worst salary cap situations of all time.

They currently have no space to add any free agents or resign any players that are about to hit the market.  The Steelers are estimated to only have $6,747,516 in cap space to utilize so potential veteran cuts will likely be made. The Steelers need to start planning for the future especially with Le'Veon Bell's contract about to expire.

The Steelers can see 3 players have their contracts effected thanks to their cap situation and they are cornerback Cortez Allen, tight end Heath Miller, and defensive lineman Cameron Heyward. Allen will count $5,750,000 against the cap which will make him a likely cap casualty.

Allen's play has not been consistent enough to demand a new contract or that the Steelers keep paying him at all. The Steelers have struggled with their secondary and rebuilding it would be a step in the right direction. Miller is an offensive staple of the Steelers however he is projected to count $7,181,668 against the cap and that is way too much money to invest in an underutilized, aging tight end, so expect him to take a pay cut.

Cameron Heyward has been solid recording 7 plus sacks over the last 2 seasons, he also hasn't missed a game in that timeframe. Heyward will count $10,400,000 against the cap and the Steelers should explore the possibility of restructuring his deal.
