The New York Giants will have a ton of work to do in the offseason to make this team competitive again. The Giants stand to lose veteran cornerback Prince Amukamara in free agency but they could also lose Jason Pierre-Paul if they cannot resign him before free agency.
This would leave two gaping holes in positions that were already areas of need, cornerback and defensive end. The Giants will need to free up some cap space somehow so it is likely they will need to release either left tackle William Beatty whose cap hit is $9,175,000, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie whose cap hit is $8,000,000, or finally Victor Cruz, whose cap hit is $9,900,00.
The impression is the Giants are not rebuilding but reloading somewhat, however the Giants have a ton of needs. With Odell Beckham the poster bar for Giants playmakers on offense they seemingly can afford to let Cruz (who was held out all of 2015 with multiple injuries) go in order to save some cap space.
The Giants are currently looking at a projected $35,000,000 plus in cap space which however they will need to decide what to do with their 20 or so impending free agents which makes that number a lot smaller than it actually is. The Giants may consider releasing Cruz and several other perennial Gmen in order to help this roster grow under new head coach Ben McAdoo.
