The 2016 NFL draft is months away and teams are starting to do their homework on the top prospects, including players like Joey Bosa, Jared Goff, Carson Wentz, Laquon Treadwell, Jalen Ramsey and Laremy Tunsil. The top five has the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, San Diego Chargers, Dallas Cowboys and Jaguars picking, here is a look at what those teams could do.
The Titans have the first overall pick and the team likely will not be looking at the quarterback position after taking Marcus Mariota last year. The team could consider trading down and getting some extra draft picks, but as things stand, the Titans do not look like they are pushing to get out of the top spot. Mel Kiper at ESPN has the Titans taking Joey Bosa in his first mock draft, while CBS Sports has Laremy Tunsil going number one.
Bosa is considered to be the top defensive player in the 2016 class, while Tunsil is one of the best offensive line prospects. The Titans have needs all over the roster and the offensive line is one of those major areas where the team could use an upgrade. Bosa had over 50 tackles for loss while at Ohio State and he should be a top five option.
The Browns pick at number two and the consensus among the NFL media and people around the league is that the team will go after a quarterback. Hue Jackson has said that the team will look at the position in the draft and that could lead the Browns to take Jared Goff, Carson Wentz or Paxton Lynch. There is plenty of time for the team to work out and evaluate the quarterbacks, but coming into the process most scouts see Goff as the best QB of the group. Kiper has the Browns taking Goff, who put up big numbers during his time at Cal, including over 40 touchdowns last season.
The Chargers pick third and Kiper has the team upgrading on the offensive line with Tunsil, but the team also could consider Bosa if the Titans go after the lineman. San Diego dealt with a number of injuries on the offensive line last season and getting a top prospect ike Tunsil would be a major upgrade. The Cowboys pick at number four and most expect the team to target a quarterback, but Jerry Jones said to NFL.com that the team doesn't "have-to" to take a QB in the draft.
Goff could be an option if he slips past the Browns, while Carson Wentz could be a potential target if the team goes after a QB. Kiper has the team taking DeForest Buckner, while Laquon Treadwell also could be an option to play alongside Dez Bryant. The Jaguars pick at five and players like Jalen Ramsey, Ronnie Stanley and Myles Jack could be potential options.
