Houston Texans Rumors: Johnny Manziel Trade, Sam Bradford, Robert Griffin III, Christian Hackenberg, Carson Wentz 2016 Quarterback Targets?

The Houston Texans could be in the market for a quarterback this offseason and players like Johnny Manziel, Robert Griffin III and Sam Bradford could be potential targets for head coach Bill O'Brien. The team is reportedly interested in finding a legitimate franchise quarterback and one of those players could be brought in to compete with Brian Hoyer and Tom Savage next season.

The Texans made the playoffs last season despite using four different starting quarterbacks and that could lead the team to make a major move at the position this offseason. The trade for Ryan Mallett last season did not result in the team finding a young quarterback to develop, while Tom Savage is still a raw product after being drafted by O'Brien. According to the Houston Chronicle, Texans owner Bob McNair spoke about the need to find a franchise quarterback, saying that the team is working on getting a quarterback, but that "the question is what's available, and what's the price? How many draft picks might you have to give up?"

The Texans could look at free agency, trades or the draft to bring in some new blood at the position and all of those options have names that could be fits for the team. Sam Bradford is heading for free agency and if he is not retained by the Eagles, he could be a target for the Texans. Bradford had a solid season with the Eagles last year under Chip Kelly and he is considered to be the top option among the free agent quarterbacks on the market. The Browns and 49ers also could be potential targets for Bradford this offseason.

Robert Griffin III is expected to join Bradford on the free agent market, as reports have the Redskins likely releasing Griffin this offseason. The team has Griffin on a $16 million option for next year, but with Kirk Cousins taking over as the starting quarterback, it's unlikely Griffin has any future in Washington. NFL.com reported earlier in the season that if Griffin was cut by the Redskins, teams like the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans and Philadelphia Eagles could be interested in signing him. Griffin is originally from Texas and could be open to landing in Houston if he can't find his way to the Dallas Cowboys.

Johnny Manziel could be available in a trade this offseason, as new Browns head coach Hue Jackson has already spoken about the need for another quarterback in Cleveland. While that doesn't mean Manziel will definitely get traded or cut, it could open him up to offers and the Texans could consider making a move. The 2016 draft class has a deep list of names at quarterback and the Texans could look at players like Carson Wentz, Paxton Lynch, Kevin Hogan or Christian Hackenberg as options. Hackenberg could be a target after head coach Bill O'Brien coached the quarterback while he was at Penn State.

The Texans also may look at making some changes at the running back position, as reports have Arian Foster on the chopping block this offseason. According to the Houston Chronicle, "multiple sources" have said that the team is considering releasing Foster after the running back dealt with multiple injuries last season, missing all but four games for the team.
