NFL Rumors and News: Where Will Eric Weddle End Up In Free Agency?

The San Diego/ Los Angeles Chargers had the option of resigning Weddle most likely for a team friendly discount; however that never occurred as the Chargers bungled the contract negotiations forcing Weddle out of a Chargers uniform into the unknown.

Weddle knew towards the end of the season that he was not returning to the Chargers and acted accordingly. He is easily the best defensive back the Chargers have had in the last 10 years and has given his heart and soul to the Chargers organization.

Now at 31 he must figure out what he will do now as free agency rapidly approaches. In his storied career Weddle played in 137 out of 144 games which is just about as remarkable as it comes. Weddle will have a $10,100,000 cap hit however a team on the brink of a Super Bowl could use Weddle's talents and knowledge to help solidify their secondary. In 2015 Weddle played and started in 13 out of 16 games.

He recorded 78 combined tackles, .5 sacks, and 6 pass defenses.  In his career with the Chargers he has amassed 850 combined tackles, 6.5 sacks, 71 pass defenses, 19 interceptions, 3 defensive touchdowns, and 5 forced fumbles. Weddle should have his pick of teams to choose from as plenty of franchises need a veteran safety while they look for a replacement.

These franchises include the Tennessee Titans, Baltimore Ravens, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders, Atlanta Falcons, Buffalo Bills, Minnesota Vikings, Cincinnati Bengals, Pittsburgh Steelers, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Carolina Panthers. With so many teams vying for a top flight safety Weddle will likely come in for the team that is willing to pay him what he is worth. Having Weddle land on a Super Bowl contending team such as the Steelers, Panthers, or Chiefs would be a nice way for the perennial pro bowler to end his career.
