Sam Bradford is expected to be the top free agent target at quarterback this offseason and there is a chance he could leave the Philadelphia Eagles for a new contract. Teams like the Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos could be potential options for Bradford if the Eagles don't sign him back.
Bradford is hitting the market after having a solid season with the Eagles and he is the top quarterback among the players in the free agent class. Kirk Cousins is likely staying with the Redskins, while Bradford is likely going to be a hotter target than Ryan Fitzpatrick. Bradford proved last season that he could stay healthy, missing just two games after previously missing nearly two full seasons with knee injuries.
There are a number of teams that could be looking for a new starter next season, including the Browns, Jets, Texans and 49ers. Pro Football Focus put together a list of the best landing spots for Bradford based on his skills and his performance last season and the website has the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns and New York Jets as options. Doug Pederson has said that the Eagles are interested in keeping Bradford, but ESPN reporter Phil Sheridan writes that the team could let Bradford "walk" if they "believe they can get a legit quarterback" in the upcoming draft.
The Eagles could let Bradford go if he asks for too much money for a new contract and that could lead to Bradford signing with another team. Chip Kelly just took over in San Francisco and while he may keep Colin Kaepernick, there is a chance the team could go after Bradford. The 49ers are projected to have one of the highest amounts of cap space in the league this offseason and that could lead to the team considering adding Bradford. Kaepernick is coming off of multiple surgeries and it is no sure thing that he will be back to full strength for next season.
The Browns likely will target Bradford even if the team goes after a quarterback in the draft, as ESPN reports that the team is planning to move on from Johnny Manziel. The Browns reportedly were interested in Bradford before the Eagles traded for him and now the team could pick back up on that this offseason. PFF writes that the Jets could be a possible destination if the team does not re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick, as the Jets could see Bradford as an upgrade at the position.
Bradford did not put up great stats overall last season with just 19 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, but he had a strong finish to the season with 10 touchdowns over his last seven games. Bradford is an accurate quarterback and he could end up getting a nice contract this offseason.
