Liverpool Transfer News: Reds Target Prolific PSV Eindhoven Striker; Rodgers Confident of Sterling Deal

Liverpool are in desperate need of striking reinforcements, and one of the prime candidates to make a move to Anfield in January is PSV Eindhoven forward Wilfried Bony.

The Ivory Coast international has been in sparkling form for his club, scoring 15 goals already in the season, leading to some of the big clubs in Europe keeping an eye.

Along with Liverpool, Chelsea are also reportedly interested in signing the striker, according to his agent Dalibor Lacina.

"Liverpool are one of the clubs who have been considering him," Lacina told isport.blesk.cz. "We have been in touch with them.

"Liverpool need a striker to increase their scoring productivity but, on the other hand, it does not mean we are in talks with them. They are just one of the suitors.

"It is clear that Bony has attracted interest thanks to his good performances and scoring efficiency and one of the clubs interested as well are Chelsea.

"It is in the hands of Vitesse whether they agree with Bony's departure or not. They are at the top of the Dutch league and particularly after the win at PSV there is euphoria in the city.

"Vitesse have certain ambitions and it would be difficult for them to see Bony go. If I had to give my opinion on whether he leaves in January, I see it as 50-50."

The 23-year-old is a physical striker, capable of handling things in the air as well as having good technical ability. With the overreliance on Luis Suarez, Brendan Rodgers will be desperate to bring in new faces to help release the burden on the prolific Uruguayan.

"He has been showing quality to be able to play for a big club, even in England where the league is very physical," Bony's PSV teammate Tomas Kalas said. "He would not have to adapt at all.

"I think he's good enough for a big club and that he will want to leave."

Meanwhile, Rodgers has confirmed talks over a new deal for Raheem Sterling are ongoing and he is confident of coming to an agreement soon. The 17-year-old has been in talks over a new contract for quite some time now, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the 2013-2014 season.

"Raheem's been ongoing, the club and his representatives are in good dialogue and good communication, and hopefully we'll get that resolved fairly soon," Rodgers said.
