2016 NFL Draft: Dallas Cowboys Target Carson Wentz, Jared Goff For Tony Romo Backup? Laquon Treadwell For Dez Bryant Help?

The Dallas Cowboys have the number four overall pick in the draft and players like Carson Wentz, Jared Goff, Joey Bosa and Laquon Treadwell could be potential targets for the team.

The Cowboys are into the top five of the draft after having a tough season at 4-12 that was mostly the result of injuries to players like Tony Romo and Dez Bryant. Those injuries could make a major impact on who the team drafts this year, as early mock drafts have the teams considering a quarterback with the pick. Jerry Jones told the Dallas Morning News last month that the team doesn't "have to" draft a quarterback, but despite that, as things stand now, it's likely that the team will take a hard look at.

The Titans pick at number one and likely will not consider a QB after taking Marcus Mariota last year, leaving the Browns and Chargers as the main teams ahead of Dallas that could consider the position. Mike Mayock at the NFL Network thinks that all three teams could consider taking a quarterback and that could make for some interesting talk heading into the draft.

Would the Cowboys consider moving up to get someone like Goff or Wentz if they think the Chargers and Browns will take those players? It's possible, but unlikely as things stand now for the Cowboys. Either way, the team likely will look at taking a quarterback at some point to help develop a future option for Tony Romo, who is going to be 36 by the time next season starts. The team has been linked to Johnny Manziel and Robert Griffin III, but Todd Archer at ESPN Dallas writes that he does not expect the Cowboys to sign either player.

If the Cowboys do go after a quarterback, they likely will target Goff, Wentz or Lynch, as those three players are considered to be the best prospects at the position this year. Goff is coming off of a big season at Cal after throwing for 4700 yards and 43 touchdowns and he completed over 64 percent of his passes. Goff has had a productive career with 96 TDs during his time at Cal, while Wentz is coming in with limited stats from last season after dealing with an injury.

Wentz is generating a lot of buzz as a potential top five pick, as he has the size at 6-foot-5, 235 pounds to make for a strong quarterback prospect in the NFL. Some scouts think that Lynch needs time to develop and he likely would get the chance if he ended up in Dallas behind Romo. The team also could consider going after Treadwell after Dez Bryant played in nine game due to injuries last season. Treadwell is considered one of the best WR prospects in the draft after making 82 catches for 1,153 yards and 11 touchdowns.
