New York Knicks Rumors: Does NY Have a Legitimate Chance at Landing Russell Westbrook?

The New York Knicks are in desperate need for an injection of solid point guard play and who more solid than Russell Westbrook?

Westbrook will not be a free agent until 2017 however the year prior to an NBA stars free agent run is full of twists and turns some of which can have a profound effect on his decisions. One thing the Knicks have done right is get another all-star caliber player in rookie forward Kristaps Porzingis who has put the league on notice with his dominant play.

Now with the head coaching job available in NYC it is possible Phil Jackson attracts a superstar coach with a game plan. Coaches such as Tom Thibodeau, Mark Jackson, Jeff Van Gundy, Jeff Hornacek, David Blatt or even Scott Brooks would bring a bevy of interested free agents to New York. Scott Brooks would be the name to look out for as he could be the main guy the Knicks look to bring into the fold and help woo Kevin Durant/Russell Westbrook.

With Carmelo Anthony being 31 and already having knee issues it is clear that the framework for a championship team seems to be fraying however expect a ton of moves to be made over the next 2 years which will put the Knicks in place to compete for an NBA championship. If that doesn't happen it is likely New York will see a mass exodus of Anthony and Jackson.
