Houston Texans Rumors: Sam Bradford, Brock Osweiler Favored Over Carson Wentz as Derrick Henry, Ezekiel Elliott Replace Arian Foster?

The Houston Texans have holes to fill. The team is in need of getting a quarterback capable of starting a full season unlike their options last year and they potentially need a new workhorse running back. Arian Foster is working to come back from a torn Achilles tendon suffered last year, but even if he recovers the team is preparing to part ways with him. That leaves free agency and the NFL Draft as options for the Texans to fill two very big needs.

While Foster posted a picture of him jobbing on social media, the Texans are still expected to cut ties with him. According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Foster will be released as he is only owed $6.5 million in a non-guaranteed salary for 2016. The Texans do not want to pay him that considering his injury history in the past few seasons. Unless Foster agrees to a pay cut, the Texans will be forced to move from him and look at other options.

The Texans are poised to use their first-round draft pick on a quarterback. However, with the doubt in talent available, using that pick elsewhere and grabbing a quarterback in free agency could be a better option. Unless the Texans really believe that someone like Carson Wentz or Jared Goff are ready to lead the team Week 1, they should not waste their first pick on them. Instead, ESPN.com believes the Texans stand a chance at getting Sam Bradford if he is truly not franchised by the Eagles or chasing Brock Osweiler or Robert Griffin III who will be available. While they might not be enticing options for the fan base, they would be upgrades over the rookies who may or may not develop into talent.

Then comes the running back position. The Texans have flexibility with what they do at the spot considering they have Alfred Blue who proved he can handle a bigger workload. The Texans could draft someone early like Ezekiel Elliott of Derrick Henry. They could wait until a later round and select someone like Kenneth Dixon. If they want to spend money, Lamar Miller and Chris Ivory are good options.

In terms of the quarterback position, the Texans are an ideal landing spot for a free agent. The team's defense is relatively set. They have a star wide receiver in DeAndre Hopkins. They have a good No.2 in Cecil Shorts while Jaelen Strong looks poised for success as well. They have all the tools to make someone successful if they offer up the contract to get them.
