Denver Broncos Rumors: Will Malik Jackson Give The Broncos A Hometown Discount?

The Denver Broncos have a ton of issues coming up in the 2016 free agency period. Number one, the sheer number of free agents they have. The Broncos have a ton of defensive starters as well as their franchise quarterback for the time being (Brock Osweiler) about to hit free agency and this may end up very badly for the defending champions. With Von Miller, Evan Mathis, Danny Trevathan, Ronnie Hillman, C.J. Anderson, Brandon Marshall, and Malik Jackson hitting free agency it will be tough to retain some of these high profile playmakers.

Malik Jackson recently stated he would be open to giving the Broncos a hometown discount if they are close to his market value. Jackson is a potent pass rusher and run stopper so he should be a highly sought after free agent. If the Broncos make an offer close to what Jackson's value then he would consider taking less money to stay in Denver. Trevathan, Miller, and Marshall have all been relatively quiet about their position on how much they believe the Broncos should pay them. Miller said he would be receptive to the Broncos before hitting the open market, and those talks quickly fizzled after Miller looked to become one of the highest paid defenders in football.

Miller will likely go into 2016 on the franchise tag leaving the Broncos scrambling to create cap space. Currently it is very likely that the Broncos will lose one if not more of their highly coveted free agents. With the Broncos currently sitting at $12 million in cap space there will be barely enough room to bring in any new free agents let alone retain the one's that will be available from their roster. Heading into the 2016 season there are plenty of teams looking to invest in a top tier defensive lineman so the Broncos will have to make a pretty generous offer to retain Jackson's services.
