The Titans solidified their future by taking their franchise quarterback Marcus Mariota in the 2015 NFL Draft.
This season the Titans will look to build a team around Mariota and typically that should start with the offensive line. Protecting Mariota should be the primary concern heading into 2016 as he was sacked 38 times last season which did result in him getting injured on more than one occasion. Drafting Laremy Tunsil would alleviate a lot of the pressure Mariota feels behind this porous O line and may give them some cohesion heading into 2016.
Now no one fully expects the Titans to win a Super Bowl or anything like that however one would expect that is where they are hoping to go one day and this means adding playmakers. The Titans do not really have any strong wide receivers or running backs for that matter which could make putting up points a challenge. The Titans need a bell cow running back and with Ezekiel Elliott staring right at them it almost seems too good to pass up.
Think about the Los Angeles Rams, they drafted Todd Gurley and now they have a new home, new fan base, and eventually a fancy new stadium. Gurley is the hope that the Rams have for the future, they may be worry about quarterback now but they are in the position to not solely rely on him as the main source of offensive success.
Gurley was expected to be the top back in the 2015 draft and it turns out he was. Imagine if the Titans added a Todd Gurley how different that offense would look and how productive it could be. Either way passing on Tunsil or Elliott would likely mean missing them in the draft so the Titans must think long and hard about this situation.
The Titans could overpay for a running back in free agency however even in that scenario it is hard to see that player making more of an impact than Elliott. The Titans need to go with the pick that will take some of the pressure off Mariota whether it be defensively or offensively.
