Seattle Mariners Rumors: Josh Hamilton and Justin Upton Could Bring Offense West

The Seattle Mariners want offense explaining why they are one of the teams rumored to having interests in Josh Hamilton and Justin Upton.

The Mariners were at the bottom of the league in offense in 2012. As a team, they hit 149 homers ranking them 19th in the league and were last in batting average hitting .234.

Though low on stats, the Mariners are high on talent.

They traded Ichiro Suzuki last season because they were heading in a different direction and loading their lineup with younger, newer players. As a result, Ichiro figured it was his time to depart from Seattle and chase a ring.

They have guys with a future in the majors like Kyle Seager, who led the team with 20 homers, Michael Saunders, Justin Smoak and their offseason acquisition of last season Jesus Montero, who is expected to be one of the best catchers in years to come.

Hamilton and Upton would fit well into this lineup.

They possess power and they hit for average as well.

They have playoff experience and can be leaders in the clubhouse.

Hamilton is a bit of a controversial player, but he is still a great person to feed off of being that he has been through so much in life. He is talented and could rub off some of his work ethics on guys in Seattle.

Both Upton and Hamilton are known for playing through injuries, which shows their devotion to their team and the game.

In 2012, Hamilton went on a tear hitting 43 homers, driving in 128 runs and finishing with a .285 batting average.

Upton, whose numbers fluctuate, hit 17 homers, drove in 67 runs and while hitting .280 this past season.

Without a doubt, they can bring some change to Seattle.

Hamilton is likely to get anywhere between five to six years in a high priced contract. If the Mariners want Upton, they will have to trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks who are in desperate need for a shortstop.
