San Francisco has been in denial about entering rebuilding mode, however this could be the year where it all finally comes to the forefront. With new head coach Chip Kelly there are likely to be a ton of changes to be made, we just do not know if they will be positive. The 49ers fielded one of the worst teams of the 2015 season, thanks in large part to unexpected retirements, suspensions and injuries. Now, they will need to decide what they need more, a top-flight wide receiver or a starting quarterback.
San Francisco will probably be out of reach to take top-rated QB Jared Goff, however Carson Wentz will likely still be on the board. But, it is possible that the 49ers will wait and trade up in the second round to land Paxton Lynch or Connor Cook (seems like a Chip Kelly move). Their first round pick really should be a wide receiver, and who better than Laquon Treadwell? The 49ers could also follow the waiting formula and be patient until a player like Braxton Miller or Josh Doctson falls to them.
Offense is not the only place the 49ers need help. Defensively, they need to replace several key linebackers who left either through retirement or release. It is possible at the seventh pick that Reggie Ragland, Myles Jack or Darron Lee will be available, so no matter what 49ers fans can be happy that they will land a top prospect in the first round of the draft.
