Lions' Haloti Ngata Wanted Back Next Season?

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Haloti Ngata wants to play next season and beyond, according to NFL Reporter Ian Rapoport. There was much speculations about the 32-year-old defensive tackle retiring, but now, he will look to re-sign with Detroit or become a unrestricted free agent in March.

"The Lions seem like they want to bring Ngata back," next season, and he would like to return and play in Detroit after finishing his first season with the Lions, according to Dave Birkett of The Detroit Free Press. Newly appointed Lions general manager Bob Quinn has some big decisions to make in his first offseason in Detroit, and the team is reportedly looking to sign cornerback Darius Slay to a long-term contract extension this offseason.

The Lions will look to keep Ngata, but only at the right price, as they will not want to overpay for the veteran defensive tackle. In his first season in Detroit, Ngata recorded 24 combined tackles and 2.5 sacks while defending three passes. The 6-foot-4, 345-pound defensive tackle's play has diminished the past couple seasons, but there is no doubt that he is still an effective starter on Detroit's defensive line.

The Lions have many needs to fill this offseason, and re-signing Ngata at the right price could allow their front office to focus on positions like offensive tackle, wide receiver, cornerback and inside linebacker.
