Browns' Travis Benjamin To Sign New Contract Soon?

The Cleveland Browns have already made some significant changes this offseason including hiring new head coach Hue Jackson, and more changes are expected to come as quarterback Johnny Manziel is reportedly expected to be released from the team in March. While many changes are coming in Cleveland, one player Browns fans will likely be happy to see back is wide receiver Travis Benjamin.

Benjamin was the second leading receiver on the team behind tight end Gary Barnidge, who signed a three-year contract extension prior to the end of last season. The Browns are looking to bring Benjamin back next season, and it wouldn't be surprising if Cleveland locked him up with a new contract very soon, according to Browns reporter Tony Grossi.

Benjamin said at the beginning of the month that he was hopeful the team would lock him up before March, and a deal to re-sign the talented wide out could be coming soon. The former fourth round draft pick recorded 68 receptions for 966 yards and scored five touchdowns this past season.

Benjamin was one of the bright spots in another down season in Cleveland, as the Browns finished tied for the worst record in the NFL at 3-13. The Browns front office is expected to select a quarterback with the second pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, and whether its North Dakota State's Carson Wentz or California's Jared Goff either one of them will have two playmaking weapons if Benjamin returns.
