Denver Broncos Axing DeMarcus Ware If He Doesn't Accept A Pay Cut?

The Denver Broncos have a ton of work to do this offseason if they want to remain competitive enough to defend their NFL crown. The players themselves will also need to decide whether or not the Broncos are a franchise they would like to remain with. With DeMarcus Ware set to cost the Broncos $11,666,668 this season if he is not willing to restructure his contract, he could potentially be released, according to CBS Sports, which would free up some necessary cap room.

The Broncos will be looking to the future as they are expected to move on from Peyton Manning and promote Brock Osweiler to starting quarterback. They could look to do the same with their pass rushers as they must re-sign their young defensive core in Danny Trevathan, Malik Jackson, and Brandon Marshall. Older defenders like Ware might find themselves priced out of the Broncos future plans as they look to keep the roster youthful.

The Broncos would obviously like to keep Ware, though Ware would have a pretty healthy market if he were to become a free agent. John Elway may prefer to resign Von Miller or at least put the franchise tag on him which would require the Broncos re-signing Brock Osweiler to a long term deal. Realistically the Broncos are going to do everything they can to keep Miller and Osweiler, so re-signing anyone else would be a plus.

In the end, releasing Ware would offer the Broncos a lot of breathing room.
