Atlanta Hawks To Start Dennis Schroder Over Jeff Teague After Injury?

The Atlanta Hawks have some issues on their hands. Following the All-Star break, the team has suffered two straight losses that are not inspiring the fan base for the remainder of the year. The team opted to make just one minor deal at the trade deadline to acquire Kirk Hinrich. They opted to keep their core group of players together and so far that strategy is not paying off. Could the lineup see some changes in the coming days as a result?

Not only are the Hawks in need of a bounce back, they are now tasked with doing so against the Golden State Warriors. To make matters even worse, Jeff Teague is dealing with a wrist injury. The point guard told the media that he heard a pop in his wrist and will be limited going forward. The injury occurred in a game against the Orlando Magic. Teague said that he is hopeful to recover quickly and not miss time on the court.

"I'll be OK," Teague said, via The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I kind of just popped it. I did it against the Orlando Magic the first time, if you remember. Then I did it again. I don't know (if it pops out). It does something and the initial pain is pretty bad."

The injury only highlights the down season Teague is having with the Hawks. The point guard dealt with an ankle injury at the start of the season while consistency has been an issue. In the meantime, backup Dennis Schroder is doing his job to carry the scoring weight. The point guard put up a career-high 40 minutes against the Bucks while adding 25 points and 10 assists to the boxscore. According to ESPN's Chad Ford, Schroder is one of the better up and coming point guards in the league. The NBA Insider compared him to Rajon Rondo. After all of the trade rumors surrounding Teague and now the injury, the team could look to start Schroder and see if that inspires change to the team.

There is no question that Teague's future is in question with the Hawks. The team opted not to trade the point guard at the deadline, but this offseason could see something else should the Hawks struggle down the stretch. Teague denied that he was concerned about all of the rumors flying around and is simply focused on getting healthy and helping the team improve.

"Just continue playing ball," Teague said, via MyAJC.com.
