Chris Long Generating Interest Among Contenders

It is being reported that former Los Angeles Rams defensive end Chris Long is being aggressively sought by several big contenders in the NFL. Long is 30 years old and will be 31 in March, so the window for him to remain a productive NFL player is closing, according to the Washington Post, and closing very fast. Long would also like to have a shot at winning an NFL Championship, according to CBS Sports.

After being a second overall pick in the 2008 draft, Long went on to spend the majority of his career with the Los Angeles Rams. The past two seasons, however, have proven to be more difficult for Long who only played in 18 games during that span.

Between 2010 and 2013 Long recorded at least eight sacks per season and played in every single regular season game. Over the last two seasons Long's production has diminished greatly, and he has only registered four sacks and 24 combined tackles in two seasons. Long suffered an ankle injury in 2014 which kept him off the field, then in 2015 he suffered a knee injury.

Long's list of suitors could be pretty long, as there are many believers around the league that it is not that Long is not productive but that the Rams' defensive schemes that are holding him back. Long should probably have the most interest from the Houston Texans and the Carolina Panthers, as they could see him as the 2016 season's Jared Allen. Long should also receive interest from the Washington Redskins, Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs, according to ESPN.com.
