Jacksonville Jaguars Have Most Cap Space In NFL; What's The Plan?

The Jacksonville Jaguars currently have the most breathing room in the NFL when it comes to the salary cap. The 2016 free agency period is coming up fast and will likely see some big names moved around the NFL. The Jaguars have a surprisingly potent, youthful core at the center of the team, and they would like to add some notable veterans to help teach these young players. They would also like to add playmakers on both sides of the ball according to ESPN.

Jacksonville is in the envious position of being able to select the best player available in the 2016 NFL Draft, simply because it can create and has enough cap space to fill up the needs on both sides of the ball according to NFL.com.

First off at cornerback, the Jaguars desperately need a playmaker to go with Davon House, who had a surprisingly solid season, recording four interceptions, 60 combined tackles, and a forced fumble. The biggest names at corner the Jaguars could go after are Josh Norman, Janoris Jenkins, Trumaine Johnson, Sean Smith and Casey Hayward. They could sign two of these top players and help solidify this defensive backfield. With Norman likely to be tagged it, could be the Los Angeles Rams duo that ends up finding their way to Jacksonville.

At safety, the free agent options are a little slimmer, however, there are still solid options at the position according to ESPNEric Weddle, Eric Berry and Tashaun Gipson are looking like potential big-contract targets and the Jaguars having the capital to make a run at Berry would be pretty helpful for this secondary. Landing Norman and Berry would be the ultimate coup for a team that is on the cusp of playoff contention.

Lastly, at outside linebacker, Jacksonville could choose between Von Miller and/or Bruce Irvin. Irvin could make a huge impact for a defense with such a big need at linebacker, plus coupling him with Telvin Smith gives it an exciting tandem of playmakers. Miller will likely get tagged, so Irvin might end up being the only option.
