Brian Elliott Placed On Injured Reserve By St. Louis Blues

The St. Louis Blues have placed Brian Elliott on injured reserve after the goaltender was injured in a 6-3 loss against the San Jose Sharks on Monday.

According to ESPN, Elliott was placed on the IR list with a lower-body injury, and he will be out for at least four weeks. The team announced that Elliot will be "re-evaluated" at that time, and that goalie Pheonix Copley has been recalled from the Chicago Wolves to join the roster. Elliott was injured while trying to make a save in the first period on Sharks forward Logan Couture.

The play resulted in a scrum in the front of the net, and Elliott was injured on the play. After being attended to by the team training staff, Elliott was helped off the ice and did not return to the game. Jake Allen came into the game for Elliot and made 15 saves in relief. Allen was just activated from injured reserve on Sunday, and now he will take over as the starter with Elliott out.

Allen was active in the game for the first time since Jan. 8 after suffering a lower-body injury. Elliott played well in place of Allen while he was injured, and this season he has gone 17-7-6 with a 2.14 goals against average. Elliott had won his last five starts for the Blues before the loss against the Sharks. Allen had previously missed 17 games with his injury, and now he will be thrust back into a starting role.

"I haven't played in a month and a half," Allen said. "I got my feet wet. We got too far behind the eight ball to catch up."

The Blues did not suffer much with Allen out, as Elliott helped the Blues go 12-3-2 during that time. Allen came into the game against the Sharks with an 18-11-3 record and a 2.18 goals-against average. St. Louis is currently third in the Central Division standings.
