Minnesota Wild Place Jason Zucker On Injured Reserve With Concussion

The Minnesota Wild have placed Jason Zucker on injured reserve after the forward sustained a concussion over the weekend.

Zucker was placed on the injured list on Wednesday after being injured on Sunday in the win against the Chicago Blackhawks, according to Chad Graff at the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Zucker took an elbow high on his head from Blackhawks defenseman Michal Rozsival. Zucker hit his head on the ice after falling down in the second period. Rozsival was given a penalty for the play and was ejected from the game.

At first, it appeared that Zucker may have avoided a concussion. Wild coach John Torchetti said that Zucker did not have a concussion, but the diagnosis changed on Wednesday, leading to the IR move. Zucker did not play on Tuesday against the Islanders after sustaining the injury in the win against the Blackhawks on Sunday.

The Wild made a corresponding move by adding Jordan Schroeder to the roster from their AHL affiliate in Iowa, according to Fox Sports. The Wild have two road games coming up against the Flyers no Thursday and the Capitals on Friday. Zucker is not expected to travel with the team for either of those games, and he could be out for longer than that, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Zucker was replaced in the lineup on Tuesday against the Islanders with Chris Porter. Zucker has 12 goals and 10 assists in 58 games this season for Minnesota. Schroeder now will get the chance to play, and he previously has appeared in 13 games for Minnesota this season. The next chance that Zucker will have to play for Minnesota after the two-game road trip is on Sunday against the Florida Panthers at home.

The Wild are currently trying to stay in the playoff race in the Western Conference. The team has a 27-23-10 record this season with 64 points, and they are two points back of the Colorado Avalanche for the second wild card spot. The Nashville Predators currently are in the first wild card spot with 69 points.
