Barcelona is holding on tight to their top spot in La Liga play, leaving Real Madrid only a small fighting chance to get to the podium this season. Madrid's season has been up and down this year. They did get a 2-0 Champions League win against Roma, but they fell to Barcelona earlier and almost lost to Granada at one point. Despite all of that, Cristiano Ronaldo is making it clear that he is happy in Madrid and still believes in the club.
Earlier in the year it was reported via the The Mirror both Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United were preparing huge offers to Ronaldo to make the transfer from Real Madrid. The contracts were reported to break the bank in order to get the striker to change clubs. Ronaldo has remained quiet about the idea of moving on until now. He recently told Mahou that he plans to stay in Madrid for a long time as it is where he feels the most at home.
"Real Madrid is a club with a lot of pressure from both inside and outside, but I have been here for many years and I am used to it," Ronaldo said, via Mahou. "The grandeur of the club means that people look at us differently to others. However, on a personal level things are positive, I am very happy and I want to be at this club. I feel the support of the fans. When the people sing my name, I'm proud."
Ronaldo has won the La Liga title and Champions League title just once since moving from Manchester United in 2009. Many believe he could be on the move to a club that looks more poised to take the title sooner rather than later, but Ronaldo still believes that Real Madrid can be a threat especially in Champions League. The team is in the midst of several must-win games, starting with a match against Atletico Madrid on Saturday. They also have to hope Barcelona begins to drop from their nine-point lead at some point.
"It is a very important match and it is at home with our supporters," Ronaldo said, via ESPNFC.com. "Our opponent defends very well but we must win. Although La Liga is complicated we are going to battle right to the end."
