5 Washington Redskins Players Who Could Leave In Free Agency

The Washington Redskins have already announced their desire to let go of Robert Griffin III, but is there a chance that they lose any important players to free agency? A few key players are set to test the market outside of D.C., and it looks like some may start packing.

Here's who could leave.

1. Kirk Cousins (Quarterback, 27 years old)

Cousins had a stellar season - the best season of his career, actually. He knows that the Redskins system will suit him the best going forward, but does he really want to return to a team that did not believe in him for so many years? Cousins also knows that this may be the only time he is able to exploit the free agent market thanks to his impeccable play. Washington will make Cousins a solid offer, but will it be enough? The Redskins have an estimated $12 million in cap space currently and are running out of time to get a deal done before free agency according to ESPN. It wouldn't be shocking to see Cousins go after the money rather than the system.

2. Terrance Knighton (Defensive tackle, 29 years old)

Knighton was a bust after leaving the Broncos for the Redskins in 2015. He only recorded 1.5 sacks and cost the Redskins $4 million in 2015, with $3.5 million in dead cap space. The Redskins need a solid defensive tackle and are likely to draft one before the 2016 regular season. This means Knighton should be replaced relatively cheaply.

3. Alfred Morris (Running back, 27 years old)

It is almost unbelievable that Morris is 27, since the Redskins have been treating him like he is past 30. The Redskins will re-sign him for the right price, but are comfortable with Matt Jones and Chris Thompson leading the ground game according to the Washington Post. It is almost unthinkable that Morris is back with the Redskins after last season, but the market could be saturated with running backs thanks to the draft and the free agent running backs already out there. Morris is a solid veteran who could substantially contribute to a team.

4. Mason Foster (Inside linebacker, 26 years old)

Foster barely did anything on the field this season besides make mistakes. He only started in five games and he did generate a forced fumble, but look for him to become a depth player on another roster.

5. Kedric Golston (Defensive tackle, 32 years old)

Golston is purely a depth player behind Knighton, he will likely be released to as the Redskins invest heavily on their defensive line in the 2016 NFL Draft.
