Dallas Cowboys Looking To Re-Sign Rolando McClain

The Dallas Cowboys are looking to cover all of their bases before the 2016 NFL Draft, and resigning McClain would the only way that the Cowboys draft the best player overall, according to Dallascowboys.com.

The Cowboys have developed a skill for spotting second round talent. Randy Gregory has had a rough entrance into this league but could still develop into a star, and Demarcus Lawrence will continue to be a focal point of this defense. The Cowboys haven't let an overall need control who they select in the draft because they have so many needs to fill according to Dallas Cowboys.com. McClain was a first round pick in 2010 to the Oakland Raiders and has had a bit of a career resurgence with the Cowboys. He has been effective predominantly at picking the ball off.

McClain has managed to pick up three interceptions in two seasons with the Cowboys, but he has never played a full season in his NFL career. He also gets very little pressure on the quarterback, which is evident when you see he only has had four sacks in three seasons. McClain's best trait is his ability to be a cover linebacker. McClain does a great job defending passes and generating turnovers when the ball is in the air, and that is what the Cowboys like. He has not done enough to garner a ton of attention on the free agent market, so a deal could potentially get done here.

The Cowboys do not have a ton of cap space around $10 million before any moves have been made, so they could free up some by releasing several players, namely Brandon Carr. However, they could also explore restructuring Tyron Smith's and Dez Bryant's deals to see how much room they could free up, ESPN noted. The Cowboys haven't been major players in free agency, but they could look to fill some of the holes on this secondary this offseason.
