Denver Broncos Renegotiating DeMarcus Ware's Contract At NFL Combine

The Denver Broncos will look at the future prospects of the NFL this weekend, but they will also look to clean up their cap situation. The Broncos will be meeting with DeMarcus Ware this weekend to help lower his cap hit, as it currently rests at $11.67 million for 2016 and is hindering the Broncos as they try to resign both Von Miller and Brock Osweiler, according to ESPN.

Ware is 33 years old and will be a free agent next season, so it makes sense that the Broncos either release him or restructure his contract to lower his cap hit. Releasing Ware is one of the few ways that the Broncos could expand their cap space to a point where they have a chance at resigning some of their young, productive defenders.

Not only is Miller a free agent, but so are Danny Trevathan, Brandon Marshall and Malik Jackson. With so many prominent free agents, the Broncos will be hard pressed to keep everyone on their Super Bowl roster. The Broncos must do everything in their power to retain Osweiler and Miller, as they are key components to this team, The Denver Post noted.

Ware has expressed a desire to return to Dallas to finish out his career. After winning a Super Bowl and getting that out of the way, he can now set his sights on how he wants to spend the twilight of his career. Ware will have a big decision to make, and it is very unlikely at this stage in his career that Ware would accept less money according to CBS Sports. The Broncos only have a handful of people that they can release to create the adequate cap room necessary to resign the core of their defense and their franchise quarterback. The Broncos may look to renegotiate or release Ryan Clady as well, considering he also has a cap hit of over $10 million.
