2016 NFL Combine Displays Lackluster Wide Receiving Class

There have been a lot of surprises at the 2016 NFL Combine, but none were more surprising than the lack of speed found amongst this year's crop of prospects. The biggest disappointment of the afternoon came from the combine performance of a player whom most people assumed was the best wide receiver in the draft, Laquon Treadwell.

He posted a 9-foot-9 broad jump and a 33-inch vertical, which places him around the average mark, according to Giants.com. With Treadwell not running at the combine, there will be a ton of questions surrounding the top 20 NFL prospect. Wide receivers Will Fuller and Sterling Shepard improved their draft stock by posting some of the best times of their class, NFL.com noted.

Fuller recorded a 4.32 40-yard dash time, and Shepard ran a 4.48. Shepard had the superior performance, as he had impressive performances in both the vertical and broad jump. Shepard posted a 41-inch vertical and a 10-foot-3 broad jump, some of the best numbers in his class. Shepard has outstanding route running skills that may separate him from this wide receiver class. Josh Doctson had a typical outing, running a 4.50 40-yard dash. Doctson is one of the few receivers who didn't hurt his draft stock in the second day of the NFL Combine. The converted quarterback and now wide receiver Braxton Miller had an impressive day, as he has shown a natural route running ability that a lot of receivers in this draft class lack, according to Cleveland.com.

Miller recorded two 40 times of 4.50 and 4.55 seconds, putting him right in the range of Josh Doctson's time. Miller and Doctson are expected to be drafted during the second day of the 2016 NFL Draft.
