Los Angeles Lakers News 2012: Metta World Peace Becomes The Sixth Player To Reach Rare Feat

Given the early struggles that the Los Angeles Lakers are going thru, small forward Metta World Peace still believes that the Lakers can match the 1996 Chicago Bulls' record of 72 victories in a season.

The Lakers are now 9-10 after a 103-87 victory against the New Orleans Hornets, and would have to go on a 64-game winning streak to match the record set by the Bulls.

Though highly unlikely, World Peace is sticking to his early season predictions and is prepared to eat his words if he has too.

"If anybody can do it, this team can do it," he said. "You need to believe in yourself or else you'll never make it.

"I'm never going to say we're going to lose."

In Wednesday's game against the Hornets, in which the Lakers Kobe Bryant recorded his 30,000th career basket, World Peace also accomplished a rare feat.

World Peace made a three-pointer in the fourth quarter to reach 12,000 points, making him the sixth player in league history to reach 12,000 points, 4,000 rebounds, 1,000 three-point field goals, and 1,500 steals.

He joins Paul Pierce, Jason Kidd, Gary Payton, Reggie Miller, and teammate Bryant in this elite group.

Metta made his 1,000th three-point field goal against Orlando to become the 68th player to reach that feat. And then in Houston, he grabbed his 4,000th rebounds. He entered Wednesday's game as the 28th all-time leader in career steals with 1,572.
