With just two points separating Juventus and Napoli at the top, the defending Serie A champions will be desperate to pick up all three points on their travels to Palermo.
Juventus currently lie top of the table on 35 points from 15 games, with Napoli just two points behind them, while the likes of Inter Milan, Roma and Fiorentina are not too far adrift either.
The Italian champions have come for some criticism off late, but Gianluigi Buffon came out in full defense of his side.
"I don't like this controversy and it brings out this total inconsistency in the treatment of errors for and against Juventus," Buffon told RAI.
"This season the only really big mistakes I saw in our favour were against Catania.
"At times there is an exaggerated pandemonium around these matters. Juventus are used as a shield and an alibi by those who never win."
Buffon, as the table suggests, expects a tough competition for the Serie A title this year.
"This is a season where we're going to be in a battle, even if we are the favorites because we have reinforced and started well," he added. This doesn't mean our victory is to be expected, as that would be a terrible thought to allow. That's just inviting surprises."
Meanwhile, Juventus legend Pavel Nedved has hailed his side's successful return to the European stage, after they qualified for the knockout rounds of the Champions League.
"We're back among the European greats," he told the club's official website. "There are perhaps three or four teams who are better equipped than we are, but there's very little difference and anyway the strongest sides don't always win. It's a difficult competition because one bad half can put you out.
"As far as the draw is concerned, I would aim to steer clear of Real Madrid. I would have wanted to lift the Champions League as a player, I joined Juventus with that aim, but it would give me great satisfaction to also win it as a director."
Nicklas Bendtner, Lucio and Simone Pepe are ruled out for Juve, while Palermo, who are 17th with 14 points, will miss the services of Abel Hernandez and Andrea Mantovani.
