Manchester United will look to sign Porto winger James Rodriguez and Celtic defensive midfielder Victor Wanyama in the January transfer window, if they can offload Nani.
The Portuguese winger is yet to agree on a new contract with United, with talks stalling. This has led to suggestions that Nani, whose contract expires in 2014, could leave the club, with a host of Italian clubs and Arsenal linked with a £20 million ($32 million) move.
According to the Manchester Evening News, United are hoping to use the funds from the sale of Nani to bring in both Wanyama and Rodriguez.
United's chief scout Martin Ferguson watched Wanyama in the Champions League game against Barcelona last month, while Rodriguez was strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer.
The Red Devils will even look to use Nani as bait in a move for Rodriguez, who is seen as one of the brightest young wingers in Europe currently.
Meanwhile, former Manchester United winger Willie Morgan has implored Sir Alex Ferguson to make a move for Liverpool's Raheem Sterling.
The 18-year-old is enjoying a breakout season with Liverpool, and even earned his first England cap recently. The winger, however, is yet to agree on a new contract with the club, with talks coming to a halt.
While Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers remains confident of agreeing a deal, it has not stopped the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United from reportedly making their interests known.
"I think United should attempt to buy Liverpool's winger Raheem Sterling," Morgan told the Manchester Evening News.
"Sterling is the first winger I have seen in a long time who looks like a proper winger.
"He looks very good already and I think he is going to be great.
"If you just let him go wide on the outside of the full-backs all the time I think he will be a great player.
"He'll frighten people to death, so long as nobody coaches it out of him. He's the brightest prospect out there and would suit United."
