Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Being Linked with Moves for Miralem Pjanic and Befetimbi Gomis

Chelsea are being linked with moves for Miralem Pjanic and Bafetimbi Gomis as the Blues look to get over the disappointment of losing in the World Club Cup final to Corinthians.

Roma midfielder Pjanic is being looked at by the Chelsea hierarchy as a potential replacement for Frank Lampard, according to the Daily Star.

Lampard admitted his career at Chelsea looks likely to be coming to an end after this season, and Chelsea have already cast their eye on potential replacements with Pjanic topping the list. The Blues are reportedly readying a bid in the region of £12 million ($19.4 million).

Chelsea, however, face competition from French club Paris Saint Germain, with Carlo Ancelotti also reportedly expressing an interest in the Bosnian international, who has previously played in France with Metz and Lyon, before making his move to Roma.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have gone ahead of Liverpool in the race to sign Lyon forward Befetimbi Gomis, according to Canal+.

The French international striker has been linked with a move away from Lyon for quite a while now, with the French club keen to offload the striker, to decrease their considerable wage bill, if a suitable bid were to be received in January.

Reports suggest Chelsea are now favorites to land the 27-year-old, with tentative negotiations already beginning between the two clubs.

Chelsea are on the lookout for a new striker in January, to release the burden on Fernando Torres, who has shown some good form recently.

While Torres will remain the No. 1 option, unless Chelsea succeed in signing Radamel Falcao, the Blues are keen to bring in another striker with Daniel Sturridge expected to leave for Liverpool when the transfer window opens in January.

Meanwhile, Chelsea youngster Lucaz Piazon criticized his players for lacking desire after his club lost their grip on another trophy following the 1-0 loss to Corinthians.

"It seems that some people are missing a few things, principally the desire to be champions," Piazon told www.esporte.uol.com.br.

"I think Ramires and David Luiz, the Brazilians, were the ones who strove to give their utmost, and are therefore the ones who are most upset.

"We lacked character and a love for the shirt. Nobody wanted the ball. At least Oscar tried.

"I won't be more specific but I can say that the team lacked willingness. You don't go into a final without the desire to play the ball, that's unacceptable."

Piazon, later, backtracked from those comments, but reiterated his stance that the South American champions were the side that wanted the title more than the London club.

"All I said was that Corinthians had more courage to play the final than us, that they wanted more this title and that they played with more passion than us," he wrote on his Twiter account

"I would never say something about my teammates, I'm just 18 and with them I learn a lot of good things.

"And I also said that this title is so important for the South American clubs and that was a dream for me, that's why I was so sad."
