Los Angeles Lakers Rumors 2012: Lakers Turned Down Trade For Atlanta's Josh Smith?

The Los Angeles Lakers pulled off two major blockbuster trades this past off season with the acquisitions of Steve Nash and Dwight Howard, but it seems they might've been able to make a third deal for another star player heading to L.A. as a result.

According to Ben Bolch of the L.A. Times, the Atlanta Hawks reached out to the Lakers to inquire about a possible trade that would send Pau Gasol and Chris Duhon in exchange for Josh Smith and Devin Harris.

The Lakers of course turned that offer down because it was the thought that after acquiring Howard and Nash, and later Jodie Meeks and Antawn Jamison, that the front office wasn't looking to make anymore moves with the thought that the team was already championship ready.

Another reason could be because of Nash's reluctance to sign a three-year deal with the team and or Kobe making it known that he wanted Gasol to remain in Los Angeles.

Regardless of the reasoning, the Lakers are probably wishing they would've accepted the trade being that they're now struggling to even be a .500 team with their 11-14 season record.

The team has already seen the firing of former coach Mike Brown after a 1-4 start, and with the continuous struggles that they're now having, it's uncertain what current coach Mike D'Antoni's future is looking like.

They had to the opportunity to acquire more young and youthful players with more athleticism, but instead now are shaping to out to be one of the biggest disappointments in sports if they don't get their act together after the All-Star weekend.
