EPL Transfer Rumours: Eriksen Plays Down Spurs Link; Remy Open to Newcastle Move

Ajax playmaker Christian Eriksen has played down reports of an impending move to Tottenham, while Newcastle look to beat out competition from the likes of Spurs and Liverpool for the signature of Marseille frontman Loic Remy.

Eriksen has been linked with many English Premier League clubs in the past, including Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal, with the latest club to join the list of suitors being Spurs.

Eriksen's former Ajax teammate Jan Vertonghen, now at Tottenham, recently gave a glowing recommendation, saying he would be a perfect fit at White Hart Lane.

Those comments fuelled further speculation that Eriksen could indeed be on his way to the Premier League in January, with Spurs reportedly leading the chase.

However, Eriksen chose to play down those reports, saying he was happy at Ajax and would at least see out the end of the current season.

"I have read that, but it is just a rumour," Eriksen said of reports linking him to Tottenham.

"It also depends on what Ajax want, but I hope and believe that I will finish the season at Ajax.

"One day I will take that step, but I don't know when. Of course, it also depends on which clubs are interested at that time."

Meanwhile, Newcastle are keen on signing Remy when the transfer window opens in January, according to widespread reports.

Remy is a long-standing target of both Newcastle and Spurs, with Liverpool also reportedly keeping an eye on the French international striker.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is worried about the current situation surrounding the future of Demba Ba, with the striker yet to agree on a new contract and his release clause meaning he can walk out of the club for just £7 million ($11 million).

That uncertainty has prompted Pardew to move in for a proven forward, in case Ba leaves in January with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Queens Park Rangers showing an interest.

Remy fits the bill perfectly, and the Marseille man admitted he would be open to a move to St James' Park.

"Newcastle are a very good team, they are a big club with good players, very good fans and a nice stadium that is always full," Remy is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

"The window opens in January, and there will be speculation from now until the window closes -- if I have to leave then all parties must be happy. I have a contract so let's wait and see what happens."
