Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insisted there is no way a new player coming into the club can dictate the position he plays in, amid reports that Daniel Sturridge is making a move to Anfield with a clause in his contract which says he can only play up front and down the middle.

Sturridge has complained constantly about wanting to play as a central striker during his time with Chelsea, and that led to suggestions that the England international is making his move to Liverpool on the condition that his demands will be met.

The 23-year-old completed a medical with Liverpool Sunday and is expected to become a Red when the transfer window opens on January 1.

Rodgers, when asked about the reports of a clause in Sturridge's contract, vehemently denied the player had demanded he be played down the middle.

"You can keep writing and saying these things but no one will come into this club and demand where they play, that's for sure," the manager told reporters.

Rodgers also refused to be drawn out on confirming the Strurridge signing, saying he would only talk about a new player once his signing has been sealed.

"Nothing will be complete until we've signed a player at the beginning of January," he added.

"Once we've signed a player, I'll have no problem in speaking about who we've signed. But, until anything is done on paper, there is nothing to say.

"We'll always do our business privately and in the way we want to do it. As you've seen over the last number of weeks, there are always going to be things written about players, clubs and dealings.

"We're confident we can get some business done early in January, which will really help the squad. Until that happens, there is nothing really to add.

"We don't want to make many (signings) in January but the one or two we do, I think can make a difference and help us. If we can do that, I think we'll have a good second half to the season."
