Tottenham Have Confirmed The Signing Of Zeki Fryers

Tottenham Hotspur has confirmed the signing of former Manchester United fullback Zeki Fryers from Standard Liege, announcing the acquisition on the club's official website Thursday.

A statement on the Tottenham website read: "We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Standard Liege for the signing of Zeki Fryers.

"The young defender, capped by England at Under-16, 17 and 19 level, began his career at Manchester United before joining Standard Liege last summer."

Fryers has been on the Spurs radar since before his eventual move to Belgium over the summer.

The 20-year-old defender left Old Trafford in the summer after spending about three years in the Red Devils' youth academy. Within that time frame he made six appearances for Sir Alex Ferguson in competitions last season.

He can play either left back or center back, and probably projects as a left back going forward. He'll start his Tottenham career in the developmental squad.

The signing of a youthful left back may indicate that Spurs may be willing to let Danny Rose leave the football club. The 22-year-old is enjoying a season long loan spell at Sunderland, and recently stated that he would relish the opportunity to make the move a permanent one.
