----------------------WELCOME TO THE LIVE BLOG of the BCS National Championship Game-------------------------

The BCS National Championship between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Alabama Crimson Tide is about to kickoff and we have the live blog with play-by-play and scoring updates for all those fans who can't watch this largely anticipated game.

Here are the numbers and what this game means for each school this 2012 season.

For the Crimson Tide, the win would give them their third BCS title in four years, a feat that has only been accomplished twice in the history of the poll era since 1936.

Two more numbers to focus on, nine and eight. The Crimson Tide has won nine national championships since 1936 for first on the list. Who's in second place you wonder? Yup! You guessed it, Notre Dame with eight national championships.

So the math is easy, win today and the Fighting Irish tie Alabama for the most national titles in the country.

Another major accomplishment the Fighting Irish can achieve with a win is becoming the first team in the history of college football to win a national title when entering the season unranked.

Without a doubt, they surprised many.

Their defense is the best in college football leaving their offense with very little to do. Everett Golson, their quarterback, has 166 complete passes, 2,135 passing yards and 11 touchdowns. Their running game carries the offense as Theo Riddick rushed for 880 yards in the season scoring five touchdowns and Cierre Wood rushed for 740 yards and four touchdowns.

They will face another stingy defense in the Crimson Time. Trying to take advantage of defensive stops is the Alabama offense headed by A.J. McCarron who completed 191 passes, 2,660 passing yards and 26 touchdowns. Eddie Lacy rushed for 1,182 yards and 16 touchdowns while T.J. Yeldon had 1,000 yards on the dot with 11 touchdowns.

It will be a tough game to predict, but check out our own Matt Jessim's predictions for this one.
