Arsenal Transfer Rumours: David Villa on His Way to London Colney for a Medical?

Twitter is never the most believable sources when it comes to transfer news, but one of the rages on the social networking site over the past few hours has been the suggestion that David Villa is on his way to London to undergo a medical on Tuesday.

Arsenal are chasing the Barcelona forward, there is no doubt about that. Despite being 31, Arsene Wenger understands the quality that Villa will bring to his side, still looking to get into their stride.

A Spanish signing in the summer - Santi Cazorla - is already creating waves at the Emirates, so adding another would not be too much of a bad thing.

Arsenal fans can only dream when it comes to big names like Villa in the recent future, but Wenger himself has revealed several times the financial restrictions of the past few years do not exist anymore.

Bidding £16 million ($26 million) for a 31-year-old is not beyond Arsenal's reach, although it might be against Wenger's policy of buying young players.

"David Villa to Arsenal! Massive news for the Gooners," was just one of the thousands of tweets that went on about the Spanish record goalscorer coming to the Emirates.

Fans have also begun an online campaign to "free David Villa" in a bid to bring him to Arsenal.

Villa again found himself on the bench for Barcelona's opening la Liga game of 2013 against Espanyol. Villa, himself is reportedly keen on making a move to London, and join up with Arsenal.

Barcelona, however, are reluctant to let go of any player in the winter window, and will try to hold out until the summer. However, a bid of around £15 million ($24 million) might tempt Barca to sell their player this month.

Astute transfers are all about manoeuvring and finding the right player at the right time. Wenger is not known to buy player above 30; he does not even give players over 30 a contract of more than a year.

So, the Frenchman will have to move away from his usual policy were he to pay a big fee for Villa, but until then the Gooners out there will keep sending out the vibes online and hope that it makes a difference in one form or another.
