Arsenal Transfer Rumours: Alvaro Negredo Wants Premier League Move; Wenger Hints at Midfielder Signing as Capoue is Strongly Linked

Sevilla forward Alvaro Negredo made and come-and-get-me plea to the likes of Arsenal, while Arsene Wenger hinted at the possibility of signing a midfielder, even though he admitted the difficulties at finding a quality player in January.

Negredo is expected to leave Sevilla before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, with the Spanish club desperate to create some funds in order to reduce their considerable debt.

The Spanish club's representatives, along with Negredo's agent flew into London at the weekend to try and thrash out a deal with either Arsenal or Tottenham, with the striker clearly stating his preference for a move to the Premier League.

"The Premier League is a great competition, I really like it and I think my style of football would be well suited to it," the Spanish international was quoted as saying by the Daily Star.

"There comes a time when a cycle comes to an end and I don't know whether my time will be sooner or later. I haven't thought about it a lot but I wouldn't mind playing abroad.

"I've spoken to the guys playing in England, mainly when we were together at Euro 2012.

"I spoke to (Juan) Mata and (Fernando) Torres and they say it is easier to go out and about in England as there is not as much scrutiny as in Spain. I like that."

Arsenal are in the market for a striker, with Adrian Lopez their primary target following the refusal of Barcelona to sell David Villa.

However, with Wenger still not ready to match the £14 million ($22.5 million) buyout clause of the Atletico Madrid forward, there is still a chance for Negredo to complete a move to the Emirates, although the 27-year-old would also come at a similar cost.

Wenger is also looking to strengthen his midfield, with signing a defensive midfielder the foremost on the manager's mind.

Mikel Arteta has been ruled out for three weeks due to a calf strain, further depleting Wenger's options over a screening midfielder, with Abou Diaby not really adept at that role and Francis Coquelin still unproven.

"We are in the market," Wenger said. "To find players of a caliber of Arteta, available in January, I wish you good luck. We try very hard, believe me. We have a team around me who analyse everything. We select targets, I watch them... But it's difficult to speak about any names."

One of those players who have been watched by Wenger extensively is Etienne Capoue, with the Frenchman mulling over an £8 million ($13 million) bid for the Toulouse midfielder, according to reports in France.

Capoue has been linked with a move to Arsenal for quite a while now, and the Arsenal manager has been duly impressed by the form shown by the 24-year-old French international this season.

Arsenal have been lacking a strong presence in the center of the park this year, and Capoue could be the perfect addition to the team's ranks.
