The first round of Men's Singles continues rolling with the third leg of competition featuring Andy Murray (3) and Robin Haase at 7 p.m. ET from the Rod Laver Arena.
For Murray, it will be the beginning of a chase that could land him his second consecutive grand slam title. Murray finished off Novak Djokovic in September of 2012 at the U.S. Open in Queens to win his first and long awaited grand slam title.
Once again, because of Rafael Nadal's absence from the tournament, Murray's chances of winning improve. His first test, Haase, from the Netherlands, comes into the tournament ranked 53 in Men's Singles. This is his sixth year as a pro and he is 25 years old. It will be his fourth time participating in the Australian Open. His most successful Open was in 2011 when he made it to the 3rd round.
You can probably expect Murray to struggle early on as it usually takes him some time to warm up and get his mind in the game.
In other action around the Australian Open's first round, Djokovic (1) advanced after a three-set 6-4, 6-2, 7-5 defeat of Paul-Henri Mathieu. David Ferrer of Spain (4) also breezed through the first round with a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Olivier Rochus.
Popular players, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (7) and Roger Feder (2) are yet to take action in the tournament.
