The New York Rangers hit the ice as the NHL season takes off and they visit Boston to take on the Bruins at 3 p.m. ET.
What other way to begin the season than with two of the top teams in the league. Both the Rangers and Bruins finished on top in their respective divisions.
Last season, the Bruins were a win shy of finishing 2011-2012 with 50 wins. They took first place in the Northeast division.
Rangers were one of three teams that finished the season with 51 victories in 2011-2012. The only other teams to win that many games were the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Atlantic and Vancouver Canucks out west.
The Rangers were just half a game better than the Bruins posting at 51-24 record good for 109 points. The Bruins were 51-25 with 108 points. The Bruins were an offensive juggernaut in 2011-2012 scoring the second most goals in the Eastern Conference.
The Rangers have Rick Nash now, which should help them score more often. After many wondered Nash would land, the Rangers worked a deal that helped them acquire the 28-year-old.
Now, after the long awaited negotiations settled, let's get ready to watch some hockey. Since it's a short season it'd be a good idea to watch as many games as you can. This year, anybody could take it.
