Manchester United Transfer Rumours: Eriksen to Snub United Move? Coentrao Offered By Real Madrid

Manchester United could be set to lose out on long-term target Christian Eriksen, while Fabio Coentrao might be on his way to Old Trafford.

United have been linked with Eriksen for quite some time now, with recent reports suggesting they could yet be ready to make a January move or one in the summer.

The Ajax playmaker has previously admitted his interest in playing in a bigger league in the future, although he is expected to remain in Amsterdam until the end of this season.

However, with the Danish international's current contract set to expire in 2014, Ajax are preparing a new deal for the 20-year-old to ward off interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe, according to talkSPORT.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Barcelona have also been credited with an interest for the talented midfielder in the past.

United, however, are thought to be the keenest among the candidates, with Sir Alex Ferguson a big admirer of Eriksen's talents.

Ajax, known to have one of the best academies in the world, are now used to selling their best talent to clubs around Europe, but are reportedly determined to keep their biggest asset, this time around, for as long as possible.

Ajax have already put across the deal to Eriksen's agents, with the player set to decide on whether to sign a new contract or not.

"I hope he wants to stay at Ajax," the Dutch club's manager Frank de Boer said.

Meanwhile, United and Chelsea have been offered Coentrao in the summer, with Real Madrid looking to offload the let-back.

Coentrao is reportedly at odds with Jose Mourinho, with the manager unhappy with the defender's performances. The fact that he has been injury-prone as well ever since making his move to Real has not helped his case either.

United might be in the market for a left-back in the summer, with Ferguson looking for a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra. Alexander Buttner is yet to prove himself in that position, and while Leighton Baines remains the club's No. 1 target, they might be open to a move for Coentrao.

Chelsea are now unlikely to move for the Portuguese, with Ashley Cole on the verge of agreeing a new contract, meaning the path might be wide open for United to take advantage, if they choose to.
