Mother nature continues to set the perfect weather conditions for this tournament. Okay, it could be slightly a bit cooler, but at least the games don't get postponed to rain (Wimbledon). Rumors of 100 degree weather for today's games were mentioned yesterday, but here's the weather report for matches as the forecast is perfect for tennis.
The roof at the Rod Laver Arena has been wide open for most matches allowing the to bake the court. Today, this trend will continue. Expect to see players wearing caps similar to the one Andy Murray wore in Wednesday's match against Jeremy Chardy.
Well, both guys were wearing their caps.
Luckily for them, in this picture, there is shade.
When Maria Sharapova and Na Li take the court a little after 1:30 p.m. EDT, it will be approximately 86 degrees with clear skies. There will be a breeze rolling around the arena as a wind at around seven miles per hour is expected to accompany the sun's rays.
The temperature will peak at the lower 90's at around 4 p.m. EDT and by this point, Sloane Stephens and Victoria Azarenka should be well into their semifinals match. Expect the court to be hotter than ever as these two ladies mean business when they come out and play.
By the time Novak Djokovic and David Ferrer hit the court of the Rob Laver Arena, temperatures will have descended back into the mid-80's. They will make their appearance at around 7:30 p.m.
For those going to the earlier games, please be advised that the UV index is extreme as it's sitting on 11, so sunblock is highly recommended.
You can leave the umbrellas at home, there is no rain expected.
Temperatures are expected to descend into the upper 60's towards the end of the Djokovic match.
