Farmers Insurance Open goes live with Tiger Woods as he tees off at 12:20 PM ET from Torrey Pines in San Diego for round two.
Tiger Woods got off to a great start on Thursday in the first round of the Farmers Insurance Open, but it is Brandt Snedeker and K.J. Choi who are tied at the top of the leader board after the first day of competition.
Things kick off on Friday for Woods around 12:20 p.m. and he will try to improve on his 4-under 68 after both Snedeker and Choi hit 7-unders to take the top spots. Woods will be playing on the shorter South course after dealing with the tougher north course on Thursday and will be grouped with Rickie Fowler and Nick Watney.
Woods had an excellent day on Thursday and continued his strong play at the course during his career. After hitting a 68 he now is 115 under par for his career on the Torrey Pines South Course. He hit four birdies and an eagle over the first nine holes and added an eagle at the par-5 sixth hole. Down the stretch he had three more birdies and two bogeys.
"I made a few mistakes out there," Tiger said, "but I made some nice plays as well."
Woods has won 18 career majors, but he hasn't taken one home since the scandal that rocked him and his wife two years ago, which ended in a divorce. Woods' driver was working for him on Thursday, as he hit 18 greens and 15 fairways during the round.
Some other news came out about Woods as the tournament started, with reports saying that he is dating Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn.
"They met through the ski community, because Tiger is an active skier," a source told The Hollywood Reporter. "Lindsey has been teaching Tiger's kids Sam and Charlie how to ski."
There were reports in the media recently that Woods was trying to get his ex-wife Elin Nordegren back, but clearly that is not the case if he is with Vonn. Woods split with Nordegren in 2010 and was forced to pay her a $110 million settlement after his serial cheating and sexual addiction was exposed to the world after a Thanksgiving night incident. Woods was exposed after crashing his SUV near his Florida home on Thanksgiving night after getting into an argument with Nordegren. It was exposed later that he had slept with over 20 women, including a number of cocktail waitresses and porn stars.
Woods has won the tournament six times in his career and will have the chance at a seventh with a solid round on Friday. He is fully healthy after dealing with knee problems last year, but there still is a lot of competition on the course with players like Bubba Watson and Rory McIlroy, although Watson had to withdraw from the tournament after coming down with the flu.
The Farmers Insurance Open winner will net $1,098,000 and the television coverage of the tournament can be found on the Golf Channel on Friday and will move to CBS on Saturday. Snedeker won the tournament last year and is in a prime position at the top of the leaderboard.
There are a number of players tied at 6-under for the tournament, with Mike Weir, Ross Fisher and Luke List some of the names chasing Choi and Snedeker.
